The British Sovereign is bound by agreement that their ancesters have made, securing certain protections and the acknowledgement of certain rights that the British have tradotionally enjoyed. As such they are bound to safeguard those promises and agreements. When we were a Republic under Oliver Cromwell, he was not bound by those agreements. He had known that and exploited the fact by denying the people's offer of giving him the Crown.
