People that are older will be wiser and more experienced meaning likely more competent than someone younger.

Age is not a reliable indicator of mental competency in addition to it being contrary to the Equality Act.

The variety that exists with respect to mental competancy does not have any observable cut off point or divide at the point of retirement. Choosing to ban retired people from running for office is therefore an entirely arbitrary decision without any actual evidence to support it.
