The death penalty should only be used for serious crimes such as murder. Because if someone takes another innocent persons life then they themselves aren’t worthy of life, therefore the option is for them to suffer just like their victim. Death penalty also provides retribution and closure for families of the victims and now with modern dna and forensic testing it’s impossible to convict an innocent person. Overall some crimes are so heinous that the only fair punishment is the death penalty.

 @9FT5MWTagreed…8mos8MO

Because rapists, child murders, paedophiles get it far too easy and 95% who are ever let out, reoffend. Laws I. This country are soft and a joke

 @9H3QZZ5agreed…6mos6MO

If somebody decides to take another person's life, or even try to take another persons life they should receive death in a similar way they would take another life.

 @9M5BFXMagreed…2wks2W

I support this for the more serious crimes. Society should be kept safe from the criminsls who show no remorse

 @9M2G9F4agreed…3wks3W

If some one takes a life, scars someone for life (physically or mentally) then an eye for an eye. Also ANYONE who hurts children or animals to be placed in this category also!

 @9LXVBWXagreed…3wks3W

some crimes are just unforgivable. it costs a ridiculous amount of money to keep one person in jail per year and it’s our tax money that is paying for it. many prisoners would consider jail free accommodation and better than death so why should we pay for someone to have shelter and food and a decent life if they have committed horrific acts

 @9LXLHDXagreed…3wks3W

We have overcrowded prisons. We have a financial crisis. The cost of living is going shy high. So why are we keeping the worst of the worst in prison at our expense

 @9LWYW5Zagreed…3wks3W

The prisons are filled with people who have abused children, who will eventually get out one day. There is nothing stopping them from going back to abusing children and scaring them for life.

 @9LRYTSBagreed…4wks4W

It costs a lot of money to keep them in prison that could be better spent on our health, welfare and education.

 @9LQX78Vagreed…4wks4W

If they suffer in prison it’s much worse, death is an easy way out for them only makes family suffer.

 @9LPQJSSLabouragreed…4wks4W

I think it will raise awareness to the unthinkable to stop hurting and killing the innocent! We are living in a crime riddled world and if the death penalty is the only answer then let it come into play

 @9KSCZYZConservativeagreed…2mos2MO

The death penalty is a punishment for those who commit the worst crimes. It will protect everyone because they will no longer be living anymore

For specific crimes I believe some criminals deserve to die for what they did but only a limited set of extreme crimes.

 @9GK7D3Magreed…7mos7MO

What if it affected your family directly. Your daughter was raped, your son was stabbed, would you still want to show the perpetrator ‘mercy’ then.
No normal person would. Execute them, society doesn’t need them, they don’t contribute anything morally to our society why would you want your taxes paying to keep them alive???
It would free up prison spaces, no need to build new ones or release prisoners for ‘non violent crimes’ which is a stupid suggestion in itself - a child sex offender can watch images online of children and not commit a violent offence.…  Read more

People who want to cause harm to a lot of people with violent intentions and no regret should be given the death penalty

 @9FQ9C9Sfrom Maryland agreed…8mos8MO

Even if someone gets life in prison, that person is still living while the victim and the families have to suffer permanent trauma for the rest of their lives and it is not fair to them.

 @9FCHX9XLabouragreed…8mos8MO

The UK justice system is suffering and the amount of tax paid for the care and living of prisoners of violent and sexual offences and offences against children is astronomical. Violent sexual offences committed by people in a position of authority are on the rise, as are offences against children. If someone is a repeat offender and has shown that they cannot be rehabilitated - why should we who work hard and live law abiding lives have to fund their care, 3 meals a day and heated accommodation. People in this country who work and abide by the law are struggling to heat their homes and feed…  Read more

Most victims of rape or pedophilia end up with life long problems so the offender should not have a life

 @9LNDYLMagreed…1mo1MO

too much money is wasted on prisoners for them to take advantage and re-offend. Also this a prisoner has taken a life then why should they be provided with food, shelter and safety

 @9FCQ5XKdisagreed…8mos8MO

Human life is sacred and it doesn't matter what anyone has done, nobody deserves to die, especially at the hands of the justice system.

 @9FBLCCQdisagreed…8mos8MO

1) Non-zero risk of irreversible miscarriages of justice (as has happened in the US)
2) The state should fundamentally not have the power to determine who should live and die
3) Often more expensive to implement the death penalty than a whole-life sentence

 @9F9J42Zdisagreed…8mos8MO

It is inhumane and does not focus on preventative measures of crime and health. It is reactive rather than proactive.

 @9F8S8VSdisagreed…8mos8MO

I do not support the death penalty as the practice itself leads to those who are failed by the justice system facing certain death, all while being unjustly incarcerated. This does not happen in all cases, however there have been far to many dead by the hand of the death penalty who have been innocent of their conviction

 @9M2NX4Jagreed…3wks3W

If you have killed someone and you are 18 with a life sentence the amount of money spent on that persons imprisonment can be spent on much better things like the nhs or improving public transport

 @9LTVV8L agreed…3wks3W

Someone molests and rapes your child, continuously, for years. Ruins their life and chance for a normal life. Then the person who did it gets to eat, sleep and watch tv for free and is protected by prison officers for the rest of their life. No that is not enough of a punishment ! They need to be wiped off the planet for that.

Or someone rapes and then murders your wife or sister or mother and dumps them in the woods to rot. And they get a punishment of not being allowed to leave a room for 23 hrs a day. They can still enjoy a meal, still listen to music or read a book or watch a movie. They will still get to have a conversation with someone and think about life and pray. That is not fair, and we have to pay for that with our taxes.
Just put them in the chair, let the family watch and move on as best they can.0

In the context of the UK, particularly in cities all over the UK, the prevalence of crimes such as drug offences underscores the need for strong deterrents. The death penalty serves as a significant deterrent against serious crimes, including drug trafficking, which pose a grave threat to public safety. For instance, real case studies from London's criminal justice system can provide ecological validity to this argument. By examining cases where the death penalty could have been a potential consequence for individuals involved in drug-related crimes, we can see the potential impact it…  Read more

It completely nullifies the chance of them offending again. I don't have any data on hand but this isn't an issue that should concern data and statistics this is a moral issue.

 @9GZY9H7Conservativeagreed…6mos6MO

59% of all criminals in prison for serious crimes, who have been released from their tenth or more custody sentence will re-offend within the first year of release. Hence why criminals in prison for serious crimes should be executed and not able to see the light of day again.

 @9GYWQZTagreed…6mos6MO

While some cite studies of the administration of the death penalty in the United States as a demonstration of it's ineffectiveness as a deterrent, the fault lies in the rarely applied and long waiting application of capital punishment in the United States. If we take Singapore, who apply it as a standard punishment, we can see its effective use and consequence of limited drug abuse and low crime rates.

 @9GY9WQWagreed…6mos6MO

some people are born evil, and no matter how much of anything you invest into them they will never change
