Per poder votar al Regne Unit, una persona ha de tenir 18 anys el dia de les eleccions i ser ciutadà britànic de la Commonwealth o bé de la República d’Irlanda. El 2022 el govern va aprovar una llei que permetia als ciutadans britànics que vivien a l’estranger durant més de 15 anys votar a les eleccions generals del Regne Unit. La llei podria donar dret a 3 milions de britànics jubilats o treballant a l’estranger.
