Labour has announced plans to enforce stricter energy efficiency standards for rented homes, requiring all properties to meet a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of 'C' by 2030. The policy, unveiled by Energy and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband at the Labour Party Conference, aims to tackle poorly insulated homes that contribute to high energy bills and carbon emissions. The new rules will apply to both private and social housing, with landlords facing penalties if they fail to comply. A consultation on the proposal is expected later this year.
