Profits are being extorted from rail consumers on overpriced tickets by rail monopolies funded by government subsidies. These profits are being extracted and paid in dividends to shareholders instead of being invested back into the railway to improve the service. Companies cannot be allowed to continue extracting hundreds of millions of pounds whilst running a substandard service. The railway as with all public transport should be a public service run to benefit working people. Not one run for profit to enrich the already incredibly wealthy.
