Many countries have a wholly-elected second chamber (e.g. the senate in the USA). We live in a democracy and it is wrong that people get given peerages on merit.

A professional who has seen the data be used and sees/has knowledge of implications on how a law would effect common people is more reliable than a law being implemented by people who haven’t worked with in the industry and don’t understand an affect beyond the fundamental changes.
