The Bedroom Tax (ook bekend als Spare Room Subsidie) is een wijziging in Housing Benefit recht dat huursubsidie beperkt voor huurders in de werkende leeftijd (16-61) wonen in een woningbouwvereniging of raad eigenschap die wordt beschouwd als een of meer extra slaapkamers hebben . Huurders met een extra slaapkamer te verliezen 14% van de rechthebbende huursubsidie en die met twee of meer extra slaapkamers verliest 25% van het recht. Mogelijke uitzonderingen bestaan voor huurders die een AOW, het huren van een gedeelde eigendom eigendom, hebben een ernstig gehandicapt kind, die hun eigen kamer vereist, een pleegkind, of hebben een kind hoe op wacht in de strijdkrachten.

Only if they refuse to move to a smaller property when these properties are available, currently not the case; insufficient housing stock available. Also if home has been adapted for disability then it is cheaper for tenants to remain without loosing benefit.

No, this concept is immoral and based on far right views publicised in many right wing 'news' media and is factually incorrect. However more help should be given to help those who wish to move to a smaller property, which would then serve as an incentive too
