Sovrummet Tax (även känd som Spare Room Bidrag) är en förändring till bostadsbidrag Rätt som begränsar bostadsförmåner för hyresgäster i arbetsför ålder (16-61) som bor i en bostadsrättsförening eller råd egendom som bedöms ha en eller flera extra sovrum . Hyresgäster med ett extra sovrum förlorar 14% av titeln bostadsbidrag och de med två eller flera extra sovrum förlorar 25% av rätten. Eventuella undantag finns för hyresgäster som får statlig pension, hyr en delat ägande egendom, har en gravt handikappade barn som behöver eget rum, har en fosterbarn, eller har ett barn hur är i tjänst i de väpnade styrkorna.

unless they need the room if they are for instance disabled and cannot share a bed with their partner. Or need a carer to stay overnight

Only if they refuse to move to a smaller property when these properties are available, currently not the case; insufficient housing stock available. Also if home has been adapted for disability then it is cheaper for tenants to remain without loosing benefit.

No, this concept is immoral and based on far right views publicised in many right wing 'news' media and is factually incorrect. However more help should be given to help those who wish to move to a smaller property, which would then serve as an incentive too
