In 2017 Theresa May announced a £320m program to build a new generation of grammar schools. The plan would also will also pay for free transport for children from poorer families to attend selective schools within 15 miles of where they live. Opponents of the plan, including Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, claim it will take away funds from public schools.
@9CZPTF810mos10MO
I support both a reintroduction of grammar schools and a focus on improving current standards - no reason why both cannot be achieved
@96Q2FHM2yrs2Y
The education system is broken and focuses on validating based on numbers. We are currently marked on if we copy a marking system not knowledge or opinion. It's damaging to people and capatlises on young people rather than nurture. It gives limited outcomes and religious private schools should be made illegal.
No, and abolish private education
@98RKMX21yr1Y
No, and all fee paying schools should be part of the state system.
@95Z47RK2yrs2Y
@94GSXM42yrs2Y
Yes, and introduce school choice for parents
@8YYFJT92yrs2Y
Yes but increase funding for comprehensive schools
@9M6GGGV4 days4D
Yes, in early years we understand that all children don’t fit into one box and therefore think a similar approach needs to be introduced into schools. With an addition to life learning lessons such as sign language in primary schools. Mending clothes. How to look after their money in secondary school and how to mend a car.
Schools havent changed too much in a long time. As the world is changing and credentionals are becoming less important , i think the focus needs to be on the strengths of children but a
@9M3WD4H6 days6D
No, But start using a system like they have in Finland, or other countries which have the best results
@9M3N26J7 days7D
I would have any one who wasn’t very good at school work learn a trade as I did , years ago many couldn’t read or write but were best tradespeople ever
I really hate the way our educational system is run. We are failing children left right and centre. Children do cope well sat in a classroom, my children hate school. This is a real shame, because it should be fun, exciting, enchanting and children should be able to learn through play, experitmenting, interprating and shown what skills, atributes will help them in ways they never imagined. I also think getting children outside more, in what ever the weather letting them take the lead with basic equipment would have a huge advantage. I think this could potentially save next the generations of children and maybe support the ever growing statistics of ADHD and Autism. Majority of children in the UK, have some form of a electriconic. Lets make that less in schools, and get them DOING more. They will learn through DOING.
@9LZXF7Z1wk1W
Not necessarily, schools should all be given the same curriculum and funding but students who needs more support should be able to obtain it and "gifted" students should be able to access accelerated learning. However there should be less of a focus on grades and academic excellence.
@9LZHGDS 1wk1W
The education system needs revamping completely. Stop trying to fit all kids in one box. Have more nurturing subjects like looking after animals, fixing bikes/cars etc
education should not be based on income, location or who your family is. There should be a standard and for those that need extra support should be able to get it. I like the finnish system of education where if you want the school to do well you invest in your child and the facilities.
@9LPL9DN2wks2W
I believe all forms of private education or "better" education should be abolished and instead convert all schools into the exact same public schools, with the exact same curriculums, timetable system and so on, all things required for students such as food and medical care should be free, all educations are equal with the goal of educating better and better (this is an exception for schools for children with special needs)
@9LNFM9Z3wks3W
schools should be split into schools based upon the students skills, this being practical like building or gardening or more smarts based schools, aswell as giving everyone a chance no matter background.
@9J3WYBW4mos4MO
No, schools are out dated. Children need to be taught relevant things. How to budget instead of algebra. Etc
@9J3MGKG4mos4MO
Reintroducing grammar school is not the answer, however education needs to be changed, there needs to be a bigger emphasis on the arts, just like the more academic subjects
@96PWM7F2yrs2Y
Abolish private schools, keep grammar schools.
@96NP6CL2yrs2Y
Yes as long as there are good non selective schools as well
@96NNKF92yrs2Y
Yes, but state schools need some changes aswell
@96NLYTP2yrs2Y
Stop focusing on “classing” young children into thinking they’re not enough at such a young age as this kind of competition and “intelligence status” creates a lot of mental issues and unhappiness and it’s not a one rule fits all
@96NFZK32yrs2Y
I believe children should have the best education, but this can be bespoke to suit individuals needs. The current system is failing both academic & non- academic children.
@96N6CX5Conservative2yrs2Y
yes as well schools who tailor for trades
@96LXL6V2yrs2Y
no i do not, as well as removal private schooling together, all uk born children must attened public based schooling, which can recive denotations from parenting groups
@93M8JC52yrs2Y
Selective education at 14. More alternative provision.
@93JCZ982yrs2Y
Do not know enough to make a good decision
It should be on their general work not a test, because that causes stress.
@93F3CC52yrs2Y
Schools should evolve to different types of education because everyone learns differently
@93D8J962yrs2Y
Everyone should have access to top-quality education, if introducing grammar school meant more focused classroom, with equal opportunities then yes.
@93CKV3VLibertarian2yrs2Y
Government should not provide public education.
@93BWSB2Liberal Democrat2yrs2Y
A reform of the grammar school system which requires a certain percentage intake of students from lower income backgrounds.
@93BW6GT2yrs2Y
as long as it doesn't disadvantage anyone
@938JJ5R2yrs2Y
No, focus and adapt to progress.
@937VC6J2yrs2Y
Yes but provide more funding for comprehensive schools
@93576NL2yrs2Y
yes but increase funding for comprehensive schools as well as reform the entrance exam for grammar schools to make it more reflective of a students intelligence and hard work rather than their memory
@92YM5J3Animal Welfare2yrs2Y
Yes + removing private schools
@92XC3SW2yrs2Y
No, education should be the great leveller in society. Irrespective of where in the nation someone is born, or their family wealth, every child should have an education to equips them to achieve and aspire to whatever they want to achieve in life.
@92W8PJV2yrs2Y
I’m somewhere in the centre
@92VS4L92yrs2Y
Everyone should have the same opportunities with their education because in todays society if your rich then you get an easier shot than someone who isnt rich which is totally wrong and i seriously cant believe this.
@92V8FB92yrs2Y
Schools should be given funding and facilities to be able to challenge all pupils and let them achieve their best in a wider range of subjects, including practical skills, giving every area equal prestige.
@92TVXCYConservative2yrs2Y
Yes but Increase funding for comprehensive schools
@92TF5JL2yrs2Y
Maybe, but carefully with multiple opportunities at different ages - maybe 12, 13 and 14 - but only for those who choose to take part and not just written exam based. All schools standards across the board should be high though.
@92SZ5BS2yrs2Y
No, introduce vocational education.
@92SY5SD2yrs2Y
Yes, but make sure vocational courses are viewed as equally important to academic subjects
@92RPDCN2yrs2Y
yes, provided that there is no discrimination against lower income students / families and no unfair priority for higher income students / families. The selection should be entirely intelligence based, and there should be no gender segregation (ie all boys / all girls).
@92RCH3F2yrs2Y
I think some schools should be selective based on academic abilities
