Regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, you can identify a government in the world that you believe is misleading the public. Giving this government oversight of its country's news would lead to political bias, and repression of opposition. Therefore it can't ever be responsible to have current governments decide what people can or cannot report on.

If you are happy to give the government authority over what is true and not true, then you are not interested enough to seek the correct information. As such, you can be happier with whatever information you find, and you should not remove the ability of others who prefer critical thinking to ascertain the facts to make informed opinions
