Yes if it's a non-profit social enterprise that focus on quality, care, rehabilitation, education, treatment and support. No if it's a purely profit-making business

 @9P69QF2Independentanswered…6mos6MO

I would have said no in the past but private prisons in the UK are better run than govt ones and less violent

 @9P5K4ZLanswered…6mos6MO

Increase wage and skills of those who run the prisons to offer better care in hope of more restored prisoners

 @9PMSJMDLiberal Democratanswered…6mos6MO

No, private prisons will be susceptible to corruption and will care about profit far more than rehabilitation

 @9PLDZTKConservative answered…6mos6MO

No does not work, invest more in HM Prison Servic modern prisons are poorly designed. Victorians knew how to build prisons with a centre and wings that can be closed off. Use more open prisons for minor sentences which could be run by the inmates ie cooking building maintenance etc.

 @9PH77GGanswered…6mos6MO

No, but since almost everything in the public sector is exposed to corruption, over bearing bureaucracy and terrible financial management, costing tax payers millions in over spends because companies rip the government off. So in fact my answer is yes but only because we're terrible at public works in the UK.

 @9P6LYBDConservativeanswered…6mos6MO

No, with the removal of citizenship and only having basic human rights more people can fit into prisons therefore will be cheaper to run

 @9MX5JLCanswered…7mos7MO

Yes, there should be SOME strictly regulated private prisons, unless this costs the government enough to compromise funding allocated to rehabilitation services.

 @9MWBSPXGreenanswered…7mos7MO

No, private prisons incentivise locking people up - making it a business and ultimately fuelling a new age of slavery - similar to the US.

 @9LK6Y63answered…8mos8MO

No, this would lead to inconsistencies across HMPO's and is open to corruption and inaccurate reporting of statistics. Profit shouldn't be a factor in prison facilities.

 @9G5MCLJanswered…1yr1Y

They can have a few private prisons, but the majority should remain government prisons. They should be strictly manged to prevent corruption as to prevent them sacrificing quality of care and rehabilitation services for profit.

 @9FGZ7R4UKIPanswered…1yr1Y

No, the government would do well to invest more in disadvantaged youths, with sports, after schools clubs etc

 @9DFGY92answered…1yr1Y

No, as this would be mean there is less consequences for those who decide to take upon the exploitation of prisoners to occur / they’d have more incentive

 @965F6LPanswered…2yrs2Y

Higher provisions is needed but should remain under the government to ensure justice, especially since we're paying the private companies

 @95YLM8Hanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only when increasing quality of care and rehabilitation services while reducing costs

 @95DVQP4answered…2yrs2Y

Only if they are carefully managed and watched to ensure the best safety measures are in place as well as ways to ensure that oppourtunities are available for the convicts.

 @93DHWC9answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but they must be regulated to prevent mismanagement and corruption and eliminate contractual occupancy quotas to avoid duplicating the United States' prison systems.

 @8Z5C3QYanswered…3yrs3Y

No, private prisons only increase quota's for manual labour camps much like in America, Russia or China. Prisons that are government owned are better monitored for illegal activity like a slave labour camp disguised as a privately owned prison.

 @8YGGHN7answered…3yrs3Y

No, they are profiteers who leech off the government and provide a poor service by pocketing a fraction and doing the rest on the cheap. History of outsourcing so far has been terrible with higher reoffending rates and an increase of incidents of abuse by staff. Also end the disastrous outsourcing of the probationary service.

 @8Y5RFYHanswered…3yrs3Y

No it's already bad enough as it is without bringing companies into it.

 @8XZGJWBanswered…3yrs3Y

Yes as long as they are adequately funded to provide safe service and rehab

 @8XZDJXWanswered…3yrs3Y

Yes but they need to be properly funded in order to provide safe provision

 @DAVIEBrexitanswered…3yrs3Y

This question will be asked to the public via Liquid Democracy after a public debate.

 @8VH3D6Panswered…3yrs3Y

prisoners should work for their own upkeep , taxes should not be used for prisons , serious or repeated offenders should get death penalty , less serious offenders should be “reformed”

 @8V29ZJFanswered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but they should be strictly regulated to prevent mismanagement and ensure quality of care and rehabilitation.

 @8TLNX37answered…3yrs3Y

It should be run by department for justice and staffed by currently serving or ex military/police.

 @8TK3D3Banswered…3yrs3Y

Yes, and take their owner's income away for every re-offender they put back into society

 @8SMDXBXanswered…4yrs4Y

Penitentiary system should rely on the basis of compensations paid toward the victims. No victim- no crime.

 @8SKLDCQanswered…4yrs4Y

 @8S7CTKBanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes but only if certain prison companies are failing due to issues such as constant rioting. This should be a temporary option until the issue is resolved.

 @8S4BRBVanswered…4yrs4Y

Private companies should be able to keep prisoners who have targeted their services. They shall exploit the prisoner and get information from them with interrogation techniques on torture

 @8QBBY2Manswered…4yrs4Y

 @8Q49YCKanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes if we can stop paying so much of our taxes to people who commit crimes

 @8Q3V7FQanswered…4yrs4Y

As long as the focus is on rehabilitation I do not mind who runs prisons!

 @8PJQ9SLanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes but only a portion should of prisons should be privatised and there should be oversight.

 @8JSPHMCanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and they should be allowed to extract as much value as they can from the prisoners in order to reduce the burden on the tax payer. Why should I have to pay to keep the **** that nicked my toaster alive?

 @97YDR56answered…2yrs2Y

The Nordic Liberalism way of running prisons is good, aiming for rehabilitation.

 @97K667Manswered…2yrs2Y

NO but use them and make them into nationalised workhouses where they will provide goods for exports.

 @96YDX2Tanswered…2yrs2Y

 @8TT37ZFanswered…3yrs3Y

Yes as long as it’s cheaper than government prisons and aren’t treating people poorly.

 @8KJS969answered…4yrs4Y

No, because it shouldn’t be something of which can have profit taken from it, which I believe would create further disparity between prisoners (who should be supported to move away from crime) and those who get better life opportunities.

 @8S44KX2answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, they should be able to exploit prisoners as much as they want as it classes as personal/individual/corporate justice

 @8R77BTVanswered…4yrs4Y

 @9D2G5NJanswered…1yr1Y

yes but the company must meet three requirements at a minimum to be considered 1.Must be British owned AND based 2.have a large enough workforce to meet demands of this task 3.Must pay taxes

 @9BZW66Wanswered…2yrs2Y

No, because the government uses private prisons to avoid the fact public prisons are severely lacking

 @9BT7RTVanswered…2yrs2Y

 @9BSMJPHanswered…2yrs2Y

 @9BNG345answered…2yrs2Y

If it is a low risk prison and it would save on resources however they should be strictly regulated to prevent mismanagement and corruption.

 @9BCX7YFanswered…2yrs2Y

Prisons should be turned into workcamps to generate income for the country.

 @99M4MJSanswered…2yrs2Y

Prisons should not exist: capital punishment and restitution through indentured servitude are the appropriate means of punishment.

 @99C8FJ2answered…2yrs2Y

Run for prison and during the prison is lockdown service modes quality in private actions increase

 @9956PHJanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but with an enforced rehabilitative and restitutive approach to prisoners

 @98CH436British Nationalanswered…2yrs2Y
