If there is just slacking, no reason for absence and the parent does nothing about it. Fair enough. That’s truant.
However, I believe there should be more leniency. Particularly, if there is a reason that genuinely could be proven as to why a child has been absent. Because it seems that there is only so many times absence is excused before it becomes something like truancy. And that in my opinion isn’t right. I also don’t believe imprisonment is always the right answer. Intervention perhaps, fixing the problem and working to improve a student’s attendance. If it’s failed after that, then perhaps imprisonment might be justified.
