Allowing any aggression from a country to go unchallenged will only ever increase the likelihood that aggression would be used again, as there is no repercussion for doing so. Ie Crimea went unchallenged so the viability of invading the rest of Ukraine is more appealing as it was reasonable to believe to go unchallenged as well (beyond further sanctions)
Supporting Ukraine by providing more military equipment, training etc especially by providing a cost effective method for countering Russia artillery, missile, drones and aircraft will force Russia to commit further resource to maintain there current position. Overall the more expensive and more resistant felt during the War in Ukraine the less appealing further expansion through military force becomes.
