Private owners are motivated by profit, not by national interest. They have no incentive to provide the best service at the best value for this country. Trains should be treated as a public service which benefits the economy and society, similar to roads.

The national railway is a service that is crucial to our country. It is not a thing to be used for profit for a select few. As it is a service that the whole public use, the public should have a say in how it run. All profits should be reinvested into the service to lower tickets prices and upgrade the infrastructure. This would benefit everyone.

National assets should be owned by and operated for the benefit of the nation and all it's people. Not used as a tool for syphoning money from the public purse into private pockets or used as proxy political battlegrounds.

The nature of railways creates a ‘natural monopoly ‘. This means that any company running a railway will face no competition and therefore has no incentive to lower prices or improve the quality of service.
This means that a privatized national railway will always be inefficient and result in a worse service for commuters.
A nationalized railway that does not operate as a for-profit company is therefore the only sensible way to manage the national railway.

The UK railways are mostly owned by foreign governments, they are already nationally owned, just not by us. The private investors do not care out their workers or the quality of service, they simply want profit. Nationalising it prevents excess income generated from being removed and given to shareholders meaning it can be reinvested to improve the quality/frequency of services and increase working conditions for employees as well as expanding the network.
The national railway should be a public and affordable public service. The way the system is set up now allows private companies to have a monopoly on each rail line allowing them to extort the public. Privatisation has also allowed foreign countries to buy up rail franchises and use the subsidies paid by our taxes and profits made from our rail fares to fund their own affordable publicly owned railways. End privatisation and invest the subsidies and profits into making Britain's railway affordable for everyone.
