High Speed 2 is a planned high-speed railway between London Euston to central Scotland. The project is being developed by High Speed Two Ltd, a company limited by guarantee established by the UK government. Four major city centres shall be served directly: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. From November 2021 to June 2022 substantial parts of HS2 were dropped. As part of the Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands it was announced that most of the eastern leg of phase 2b from Birmingham via the East Midlands to Leeds/York would be dropped. Supporters of the project believe that the additional capacity and reliability provided by HS2 will cater for pre-COVID rising passenger numbers while driving further modal shift to rail. Opponents believe that the project is neither environmentally nor financially sustainable.

We need construction of new railways, and the improvement of existing rail networks, on routes that aren't just London to somewhere
it’ll be damaging to the countryside but efficiency for EVERYONE especially those in the north who are neglected by the government is important
@9BNPHCT2yrs2Y
No it has caused too much environmental damage
@964K76H2yrs2Y
I think the HS2 line should be built but on a route that would not disrupt existing wildlife and housing.
@9376R473yrs3Y
Yes and make lower rail costs
@92Q4JRM3yrs3Y
No, improvement should be made for an increase in local tram networks
@8Z7PTBN3yrs3Y
Work on north East to north West rail travel more than Midlands to south
@8X39SFW3yrs3Y
@8V7W43W4yrs4Y
yes but not at the expense of our green spaces
@8V4YNTD4yrs4Y
If environmentally friendly then yes to connect those who feel marginalised
@8TYSH5PScottish Green4yrs4Y
It's none of my business, I don't live in England.
@8TH3VQN4yrs4Y
high speed rail should be expanded not only from london to Birmingham, but in general up north , infrastructure is good as long as its applied in a way that it is practical, and in a way that doesn't destroy too much wildlife/countryside.
@8TCCHXY4yrs4Y
I am open to it as long as we build more trains with renewable/environmentally friendly materials.
@8TBN64L4yrs4Y
Yes but the project needs to be managed better
@8SZ7BZF4yrs4Y
Yes but ensure environment is protected and the rest of the north isn’t left out
No, we need to improve current standards and reduce cost of travel for all.
Yes, we are too far in now that stopping would be a waste
@8SMPWFZ4yrs4Y
Yes, if we use it to showcase hydrogen based trains before investing in these for the rest of the country.
@8SL5ZQW4yrs4Y
Yes, but it should’ve started in the north down, not the Birmingham to London part.
Yes as long as environmental damage is minimised
Yes but need to look at entire infrastructure, transport needs and what this means cost of travel will be for the public.
Trains should be more affordable, if the HS2 makes trains more affordable, and is only one part of improvement to train networks then I support.
@8RRVVG84yrs4Y
As long as it’s not funded by taxes
Don't live in England and don't travel there often so doesn't affect me
@8RMLZNJ4yrs4Y
No, more emphasis should be put on hyperloop technology
@8QZSH2N4yrs4Y
money should be spent on socio-economic issues. and people shouldn't be relocated for a train.
@8QVYZ794yrs4Y
Better infrastructure is always good, but I don't think this is being implemented very well
@8QDMPL2Plaid Cymru4yrs4Y
I live in Wales and it doesn't benefit me at all while using my taxes.
@8Q85SDB4yrs4Y
Yes, but give Wales equivalent funding to spend on rail infrastructure
@8Q7LMRD4yrs4Y
Yes- extend your Newcastle/Scotland
@8PY8X7B4yrs4Y
No there should be investment in the infrastructure of other areas
@8PCWGPP4yrs4Y
Yes but not with taxpayer money
@8P6YMF74yrs4Y
kind of but it should have a path that isn’t that destructive to wildlife
@8P5KMDZ4yrs4Y
Not at all, and shouldn’t be paid for by the welsh taxpayers money
@8NH5ZC64yrs4Y
I believe England should pay for this without part of the debt attributed to the 3 other countries of the UK
@8N84KDDLibertarian4yrs4Y
If it is constructed by a private entity without government incentives then, yes why not.
@8KNCJNS4yrs4Y
depends what land it cuts through
@8KLDTMR4yrs4Y
This question is not relevant to me
Yes as long as no damage to wildlife
@8CTJSJY5yrs5Y
We should stop looking to London and have better transport connections around the rest of the country.
@9C3XXKJ2yrs2Y
Cause it’s taking bloody ages and isn’t helping the north only benefiting the south and it’s bloody expensive aswell
@9BCTK3S2yrs2Y
Yes, but should have started in the north
Yes but we also need to improve what we have.
@99GPNTM2yrs2Y
No, focus should have been on connecting and improving northern city rail links
@8XPZHMS3yrs3Y
Yes if there is similar or more investment in local or regional transport, also local public transport should be free.
@8W27XM74yrs4Y
yes and england (not wales) should pay for it.
@8W23B354yrs4Y
Yes, but reroute it to ensure minimal damage to the environment
@8SJH2LX4yrs4Y
This is no longer the most up to date option, that should be opted for instead
@8RY8XTM4yrs4Y
Doesn’t directly affect me
@8PWK58T4yrs4Y
Yes, but wildlife needs preserving
@97957TJ2yrs2Y
helpful but bad for the environment
@93TGVR93yrs3Y
As long as people’s property are not destroyed in the process it should go ahead.
