High Speed 2 is a planned high-speed railway between London Euston to central Scotland. The project is being developed by High Speed Two Ltd, a company limited by guarantee established by the UK government. Four major city centres shall be served directly: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. From November 2021 to June 2022 substantial parts of HS2 were dropped. As part of the Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands it was announced that most of the eastern leg of phase 2b from Birmingham via the East Midlands to Leeds/York would be dropped. Supporters of the project believe that the additional capacity and reliability provided by HS2 will cater for pre-COVID rising passenger numbers while driving further modal shift to rail. Opponents believe that the project is neither environmentally nor financially sustainable.

Trains will become useless in the future. Working from home, working in VR and AI job rolls will eventually eliminate the need for trains.

What about pollution from diesel trains?

It should go all the way through GB
@8W5N6B54yrs4Y
I am unsure on the topic
Most likely, yes, as it will improve infrastructure and railway development from the south up to the north.
Only if it simultaneously includes links to other cities across the north.
@8RW4TKW4yrs4Y
Not anymore as it has cost a ridiculous amount of money and been hazardous to the environment.
@8RLWKM54yrs4Y
Liverpool and other coastal places should be given access too

We should look at improving connections east west and in the north first.
@8DNMGTY5yrs5Y
There should be better rail connection between the North and South
@9CLTLDB2yrs2Y
Not if the North doesn't also benefit
@9C9CQV42yrs2Y
Extend it to the north west
@99T92VH2yrs2Y
We need better, nationalised railways and HS2 is a privatised mess and has been since it began
It should be connected to the north
@998DGTW2yrs2Y
Yes but to the whole uk, there are more people living in north west england than anywhere except the south east.
@8TGC3HZ4yrs4Y
Yes but make it more environmentally friendly.
@97NTF6S2yrs2Y

@947W9JY3yrs3Y
