Why do you think some societies revere their elderly while others seem to overlook them?

Anyone should have the right to vote, however, I think the voting age should be decreased to at least 16 so we have more people from the younger generation to decide their future as they're the ones that will be living in the future and they will be experiencing whatever social change may occur which may balance out the elderly possibly trying to stunt that social change because it doesn't align with their often Conservative values
