It sounds like a fairly plausible and logical statement to me that a person's hobbies and interests may likely reflect their social status, as not all hobbies cost the same amount to pursue (for example almost anybody can participate in football because it doesn't really cost anything, but the same is not true for some other sports and entertainment activities such as horseback riding or go-karting where participants likely have to join clubs or pay for equipment and lessons which results in an economic barrier that limits the possibility for low-income people to get involved).
