Afghanistan's Taliban rulers have formally codified a set of morality laws, imposing strict regulations on the country's population.
The new laws mandate women to cover their faces in public and prohibit them from wearing short or tight clothing, while men are required to grow beards. Additionally, the laws ban the playing of music in cars, women's voices, and bare faces in public spaces. These regulations are promoted as being in line with Islamic sharia law, aimed at combating vice and promoting virtue, according to the Taliban's Justice Ministry.
The supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, has approved these laws, further restricting the freedoms of Afghan women and enforcing a conservative interpretation of Islam on the society.
