Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has been selected as the sole finalist to become the next chancellor of the Texas A&M University System.
The Board of Regents unanimously approved Hegar, who has served as the state's chief financial officer and previously held positions in the Texas House and Senate. His appointment will replace outgoing Chancellor John Sharp, overseeing the 157,000-student system. Hegar’s selection also opens up a rare vacancy for the Texas comptroller position, prompting new candidates to announce their bids.
The final confirmation of Hegar’s appointment is expected in the coming weeks.
