Kevin Howell Makes History as NC State’s First Black Chancellor

Kevin Howell, a longtime NC State University alum and former student body president, has been named the university’s new chancellor.

Howell, who currently serves as chief external affairs officer at UNC Health, will be the first Black person to hold the position.

His appointment was announced by the UNC Board of Governors, and he will officially take over on May 5. Howell’s leadership marks a historic moment for the university, nearly 40 years after he became its first Black student body president.
