Jerusalem Wildfires Spark National Emergency, Force Mass Evacuations and Cancel Celebrations

Massive wildfires have erupted near Jerusalem, prompting the evacuation of several communities and the closure of major highways and railways.

The fires, fueled by high temperatures and strong winds, have disrupted Memorial Day and Independence Day ceremonies, with authorities urging the public to avoid affected areas. Israel has declared a national emergency, deployed army troops to assist firefighters, and requested international help from countries like Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria. Over 150 fire crews and 12 aircraft are battling the blazes, which have already caused injuries and put hundreds of civilians at risk.
