World’s Smallest Snake Rediscovered After 20 Years Missing

The Barbados threadsnake, the world's smallest-known snake, has been rediscovered in Barbados after nearly two decades without a confirmed sighting.

Scientists had feared the tiny reptile, which can fit on a coin and measures just about four inches long, might have gone extinct. The rediscovery came after researchers overturned hundreds of rocks in the forests of Barbados, finally spotting the elusive species in March 2025. This finding brings relief to conservationists and highlights the importance of ongoing efforts to locate and protect 'lost' species.
