Extreme European heatwave kills dozens and shatters all-time temperature records
This week, a relentless heatwave surged across Europe, setting all-time June temperature records in France, the UK, and Germany.
At least 60 deaths have been confirmed, including 40 drownings in France as residents sought relief in rivers and lakes. Scientists from World Weather Attribution stated the intensity of this "heat dome" would have been virtually impossible without human-driven climate change. The extreme temperatures have paralyzed infrastructure, forcing nuclear plants to cut output and causing widespread power outages and train cancellations.
Authorities expect the dangerous conditions to persist through the weekend as the heat moves toward central and southern Europe.
