Currently UK trains are operated by private franchises and the tracks are operated by the government. Proponents argue that the system would run more efficiently if the tracks and trains were operated by private entities. Opponents of privatization claim that a single government train system would end the disruptions caused by the fractured franchise system.

have the trains and tracks owned by either the government or private companies not both
UK trains are an embarrassment. Can anything change that? Where's HS2? After all that time and money!
There should be a feasibility study into of nationalising the railway would result in better value for money for the state. If it would not benefit the state then keep it privatised and regulate the businesses so they invest in the system.
National railway should be funded by government and be free travel ! I would be happy paying my taxes knowing I could have free train travel
Partial nationalisation to ensure ethical prices for those commuting, and to make more effective train schedules.
No but need to massively improve the railway systems - build new tracks for more routes, more funding, lower prices
No, but regional rail companies should be banned.
No, but the local population needs more input
whatever makes fares cheaper/free
Either all private or all public
Whatever it takes to keep fairs down and make trains more viable than cars
what I didn't read the question
Rail companies should be independent government
@htcsensualityGreen4yrs4Y
I am unsure if either would make a difference.
Yes but only with private sector efficiencies and flexibility
Privatise the trains but keep the infrastructure government controlled
I don’t know enough about the current situation to comment
Allow private ownership, but like the buses they should receive additional funding to support loss making services.
The pertinent question is value for money for the service received. The public pay extortionate rates for a horrific service. The government quite frankly cannot be trusted to get anything right, and although private companies are likely to run efficiently to achieve profit, there are no sanctions if they fail to keep a service that runs well and is value you for money
If privatisation makes public transport cheaper overall, then yes
A detailed review of current failings and costs should be produced followed by a business plan to ensure that nationalisation is successful
Yes, but ensure that prices are reasonable
