Currently UK trains are operated by private franchises and the tracks are operated by the government. Proponents argue that the system would run more efficiently if the tracks and trains were operated by private entities. Opponents of privatization claim that a single government train system would end the disruptions caused by the fractured franchise system.

A balance to ensure that the most utilised regions are accommodated for and works take place, rather than going to the highest bidder who strips them for profit.

Yes, but with heavier oversight and set a government support users over private companies, and retain the right to waver contract and nationalise parts of service until next private contractor

The current national railway is ridiculous. It is delayed and ridiculously expensive. I would suggest doing exactly what the Netherlands does.

If state owned could work better, but we are too far down the privatisation route. There should be price caps. Also, how do you have local control in of something meant to get you from one place to a different place?

A mix of privatisation and government operated trains and tracks
