Currently UK trains are operated by private franchises and the tracks are operated by the government. Proponents argue that the system would run more efficiently if the tracks and trains were operated by private entities. Opponents of privatization claim that a single government train system would end the disruptions caused by the fractured franchise system.

Allow a French style system where the Government holder 51% share majority, and the private sector 49%

Whatever makes rail travel cheapest. It is a joke how much it costs from Preston to London compared to similar distances across europe

A balance to ensure that the most utilised regions are accommodated for and works take place, rather than going to the highest bidder who strips them for profit.

Yes, but only if it will improve service and infrastructure and that safety critical jobs are protected and paid correctly
No, It already is essentially privatised, has been a detrimental, retrograde step and should be reversed
@9FRFHMS1yr1Y
Yes, but with heavier oversight and set a government support users over private companies, and retain the right to waver contract and nationalise parts of service until next private contractor
@9PKGKHS9mos9MO
Fine companies for being late beyond a certain time period - customers have little control over the standards of each railway
@9688VQ42yrs2Y
Nationalise the infrastructure of the railway but keep the trains operations private
@8S3QSVP4yrs4Y
Rail travel could be private but there must be strict rules to be adhered to and if they don’t then they lose their franchise
@8S34GLJ4yrs4Y
Competent privatisation.

We need a better system that works better and would be used more that I’d afford
@8R2XKPM4yrs4Y
The current national railway is ridiculous. It is delayed and ridiculously expensive. I would suggest doing exactly what the Netherlands does.
@8QZNK684yrs4Y
Dependant on the productivity of the national railway at this point in time
@8QNQXTJ4yrs4Y
Keep companies and ROSCOES but have the government in charge
@8Q5V65P4yrs4Y
Partial private ownership and partial public ownership, whatever works best
@8PFSSF64yrs4Y
Yes, as long as there is healthy competition.

It doesn’t bother me, no benefit to me
@9B8863D2yrs2Y
Government owned stake in Railways. Say 25%
@98K7NGW2yrs2Y
I believe the trains and the tracks should be owned by one. Whether it be government or private, they shouldn't be separated.
@8SJH59WPlaid Cymru4yrs4Y
A mixture of public and private ownership
@8Q89NKN4yrs4Y
Not fully, but to an extent
@8ZP7CSF3yrs3Y
We need to seriously update our railways
@8YRDCFWLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
If state owned could work better, but we are too far down the privatisation route. There should be price caps. Also, how do you have local control in of something meant to get you from one place to a different place?
@8W8W2ZTConservative3yrs3Y
A mix of privatisation and government operated trains and tracks
