Currently UK trains are operated by private franchises and the tracks are operated by the government. Proponents argue that the system would run more efficiently if the tracks and trains were operated by private entities. Opponents of privatization claim that a single government train system would end the disruptions caused by the fractured franchise system.

No but I wouldn't trust the gov either But also most people wouldn't be able to afford a private ticket... ill run the trains

Private, but with much greater control and regulation over the profit, reliability of service and importantly the cost of tickets, which are far too expensive
@9CDNRVKConservative2yrs2Y
Yes but only if it provides cheaper fares
@99YR7MT2yrs2Y
No, but the government need to sort out handling the train
@96BT7GS2yrs2Y
Yes but government should make sure the prices can you go up to a certain limit with a high minimum wage for staff.

Bring back into public ownership but run a TfL and TfGM style system so areas have their own systems like Abellio becoming transport for t Anglia etc

Privatise some energy to them and then we’ll talk. Ze Germans are much better at this
Yes but it should be at affordable cost. Compare Prague to size of the likes of Glasgow and a 30 minute pound ticket gets you a 7 pound equivalent in UK.
@8XPQJS93yrs3Y
only privatise if it makes improvements
Turn rail track into roads

Railways are currently rubbish

Railways should be run as not for dividend. Their leadership structures should be more horizontal, and have better training in 21st century fundamentals of leadership, management, strategy and tactics. There should also be much more competition and transparency when it comes to all the things the rail network has to procure (eg engineering works, energy etc). All this matters much more than whether or not a risk service is publicly or privately owned; it’s a false dichotomy in my opinion.
