The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Members are appointed by either the monarch or the House of Lords Appointments Commission. The House of Lords reviews laws passed by the House of Commons and can delay their passage if deemed necessary.

Yes, and it should be replaced with a still unelected chamber of experts in particular fields with strict term limits
@B3BRBQVIndependent1mo1MO
No and their powers should be somewhat increased and increase the size of the house of Lords and increase the number of elected hereditary peer
@B2WQYCF2mos2MO
The House of Lords is useful as a revising chamber but should not be able to delay legislation passed by the Commons. The Lords' amendments ought be non-binding.
@9Q95FBG9mos9MO
It should be reformed so political parties cannot appoint lords they should all be life peers and selected by an Independant committee
@9Q2FG329mos9MO
A second chamber is useful, but not one accessed by birth or by doing favours for the government. It should be elected.
@9PNMTTX9mos9MO
Lords should not be hereditary, appointed by government or be church representatives. The House of Lords should be 100% elected
@9PFGJDK10mos10MO
I believe the people in the house of lords should be fired. Only people voted for by the public should be a member of the house of lords
No but it should be heavily reformed and there should be no input from the monarchy, peerage or archaic systems of inequality such as the ‘nobility’
@9P64J3DWomen's Equality10mos10MO
Reformed so all members serve a restricted term. No new years honours for political cronies. Normal people who have done something extraordinary. Age limit ( eg no one over 70).
@9KZM56S1yr1Y
No, but it needs to be reformed and become a second elected chamber. A bicameral chamber has plenty of merits, but the lords needs to be just as democratic and accountable like the Commons. Almost the same answer I give back when I did in fact support abolition of the lords.
@B2CZ7PP3mos3MO
No, but it should be reformed to be more representative of the UK population (including removal of hereditary peers)
@9VR3RDQ6mos6MO
No it should be adapted using proportion represntation and have experts in different fields to conduct research on bills
@9NSJZ2310mos10MO
The Lord should be abolished but we do need a second chamber perhaps voted for so that it runs half in this years government and half in the next government term so there is an overlap so you would always have hindsight
@9MYLHP910mos10MO
No, but the number of Lords should be reduced and the criteria for inclusion significantly overhauled
@9LWM85Y11mos11MO
The house of lords should be representative of the UK and seats should not be held for longer than 2 years.
@9H6YQ9Q1yr1Y
No, but life peers should be selected by independent committee for experience and knowledge as a check/balance, not by political parties
@9BNQBPN2yrs2Y
No, but it needs to be 100% elected.
@9BNNGH32yrs2Y
Reformed. No hereditary peers, no religious peers,. Combination of elected by PR and appointed
@99ZX9JK2yrs2Y
Yes, and replace it with a wholly elected body.
@96RC88V2yrs2Y
Yes and replaced with another chamber to provide oversight to the house of commons.
@95FLPBV3yrs3Y
Yes but transfered into some form of upper house
@95CL72J3yrs3Y
No, however it should be reformed
@94SL87L3yrs3Y
Yes, and replaced by an elected second chamber
@93GP7JD3yrs3Y
Should become a publicly elected House of Lords (PR)
@93FJ6TH3yrs3Y
No, but drastically reduce the numbers of peers elevated and make it mandatory for them to renounce political party membership so as to vote on legislation out of principle and not following a party line.
@92GSVKR3yrs3Y
All hereditary lordships should be abolished and there should be revisions for all those currently serving to determine whether or not they are in fact exceptional enough for such a position. All hereditary lords should also be billed for everything they’ve claimed in expenses during their time in government.
@9243JNN3yrs3Y
No, but allow the public to vote in members like the Parliament
@8Z7VZZT3yrs3Y
@8YCWXN83yrs3Y
No, and repeal the House of Lords Act 1999.
@8W8FY9N3yrs3Y
No but change to elected body
@8VFPJSV4yrs4Y
No, but they should be replaced with a senate-like body.
@8V5M7964yrs4Y
Replaced with a a different body (e.g. senate and Congress)
@8V2M3BBConservative4yrs4Y
No, but it should become democratically elected.
No, it needs to be reformed so it is wholly elected. I used to support abolition as it is undemocratic.
@8TC4F254yrs4Y
It should be reformed into a democratic house
@8S7JY6KLiberal Democrat4yrs4Y
Yes, and replace with a different system
@8QPRD32Conservative4yrs4Y
Either abolished or replaced with an elected body
No but more relegation is needed
@8NZCQSQPlaid Cymru4yrs4Y
No, but it should only be a chamber for Parliamentary Scrutiny. It should not have more power than the House of Commons, and should not be allowed to propose legislation
@9CLG3WTPlaid Cymru2yrs2Y
Reformed and Elected based on the UK counties
@9C29P4X2yrs2Y
No, but make it a wholly elected body instead.
@9BH99992yrs2Y
No but there needs to be better control over who is appointed to the Upper House
@9BBDYHH2yrs2Y
change to an elected senate
@9B39SCV2yrs2Y
No, but replace it with a wholly elected body.
@99VFXVS2yrs2Y
Hereditary and lifelong positions should be abolished and Lords given less power but there is merit in having people with experience in different fields rather than politics has merit.
@99GNSLD2yrs2Y
No if there is a better election basis
Yes, abolish the House of Lords and make it into the elected Senate for the public to vote for there second representative.
@98HP6L32yrs2Y
It should be replaced by an elected upped chamber with long periods of office.
@98G6GQD2yrs2Y
No, and bring back hereditary peers.
@98DLBYL2yrs2Y
Replace the House of Lords with an elected upper chamber.
