With the total abolition of hereditary peers, the House of Lords would be a good check against extremism. Even as a lefty I still see the value in a small conservative bulwark, even if undemocratic in nature

The upper chamber should be reformed, reduced in size and limited in future, with an element of democratic appointment

 @9PKVKKGGreenanswered…9mos9MO

Yes, but replaced with a court oversighted elected upper house with stringent legally required ethical standards.

The House of Lords should remain an appointed body, but individuals should be appointed by an independent commission rather than the government.

No - but only life peers should be allowed and those should have a proven commitment to public service and have significant knowledge and experience to offer

The House of Lords should have its legal powers stripped, however it should be retained in a ceremonial role.

 @9H4F6ZDanswered…1yr1Y

No, but be replaced with a system to abolish hereditary peers and peerages through partisan affiliations

 @9438ZXBanswered…3yrs3Y

No, but it should be reformed (e.g. elected members, abolish hereditary members, restrict numbers)

 @8Z8RMWRanswered…3yrs3Y

No, but heritary peers should be abolished and the number of lords should be reduced

 @8Z7SXBLanswered…3yrs3Y

Reform the approach in how individuals become members, For example through hard work and merit not by your ‘mates’

 @8Y5CGMManswered…3yrs3Y

No, it should be reformed so that it has no hereditary members, or church representatives, and should never be larger than the House of Commons.

 @8VZRBRPanswered…4yrs4Y

Inherited peers should be abolished. Limited tenure perhaps. Needs reform but a 2nd chamber is needed

 @8TBVC7Hanswered…4yrs4Y

No, but reformed to be a purely elected body (in the manner of the US Senate)

In a sane universe, but at present our House of Commons is so polluted that it's useful to have.

 @9866KWGanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes, and so should the House of Commons along with the rest of the government
