In 2004 the government passed the Hunting Act which banned the practice of hunting mammals with dogs in England and Wales. The Act allows dogs to sniff out foxes but bans them from killing. The Act does not prevent hunters from using dogs to “drag hunt" which uses dogs to track and sniff out foxes. Proponents argue that fox hunting with dogs is a time honored tradition that supports rural communities. Opponents argue that killing foxes with dogs is cruel since the hunted animals suffer severe physiological and psychological stress during the hunt - whether they are killed or not.

Yes but you should require a hunting permit and issue quotas for the amount of foxes that are allowed to be hunted by a person within a year
@9NMKFSQ10mos10MO
No. But individuals whose poultry/livestock are damaged by foxes should not be punished for hunting down said fox with a dog as long as it is not exposed to undue suffering.
@9P6LYBDConservative10mos10MO
No, it's cruel, if there is an issue with foxes in an area then the natural predator of the fox should be introduced
@9TNG7SCAnimal Welfare7mos7MO
I think that there should be a limit to what dogs can hunt. For example, dogs can hunt birds and pheasants but not animals such as foxes, sheep ect.
Yes, to an extent if it is to control the population of foxes, but it shouldn’t be allowed simply for a pleasurable pastime
@9QJB5RR9mos9MO
No, it is cruel, tradition can be upheld with ‘clean boot’ hunts and the current laws should be enforced properly
@9PKBMH59mos9MO
As long as it is regulated to ensure that it doesn’t risk extinction population levels of the animals
@9KQLQMS 1yr1Y
I don't support the act of the sport itself but I do support the right for farmers etc to protect their live stock if threatened.
@9K8XQT61yr1Y
No. Encourage the tradition to be done with willing human volunteers if they still want to participate in the tradition.
@9GBPQFL 1yr1Y
Yes, it is cruel. It should only be carried out in a harmless manner if there is an overpopulation issue. It should not be a sport.
@9FD22552yrs2Y
yes, only if a person needs to survive, out of spite should not be recommended
@9N2QTND10mos10MO
I agree with drag hunting as a traditional sport but the hounds need to be trained to scents away from foxes and be muzzled to prevent incidents of foxes being killed by hounds
@9N2MP7310mos10MO
Yes, it is a tradition of rural communities but there should be a closer look at the treatment of the foxes, if they are killed quickly and with limited suffering
@9MWWNMJ10mos10MO
If hunting foxes with dogs is cruel, so is allowing a pet cat out to roam and kill birds, mice, shrews etc.
@95VVVWV3yrs3Y
Yes, but as long as the practice is environmentally sustainable
@946GS7Y3yrs3Y
Yes as long as dogs are used to flush the fox and not kill
@9267QF73yrs3Y
Only in the case where foxes are damaging local farms/ecosystem and not excessively
@8ZSHLN83yrs3Y
Should be up to individual communties.
@8ZLKHR53yrs3Y
No, but try to support some of the traditions around it.
@8Z335LC3yrs3Y
Yes, as long as no foxes are killed
@8YTYF58Liberal Democrat3yrs3Y
yes, only if there is no fox involved and a man-made scent should be followed
@8YK67Z83yrs3Y
No, and ban trail hunting
@8VYK5VR4yrs4Y
Yes but the fox must live or be killed humanly with a gun no dogs ripping it apart
@8VSY84L4yrs4Y
Whilst I wouldn’t support hunting personally, I think cheap meat and poor animal welfare affects far more animals and gas implications for both animal and human health and welfare
@8VJT4QW4yrs4Y
No, but support hunting of invasive species.
@8TMFNTN4yrs4Y
they should be killed if they are making the property owners lose money
@8SJHQSTLibertarian4yrs4Y
I do not support it, but I condemn it as a cruel and needless entertainment.
@8RMBCNN4yrs4Y
Up to local communities to decide.
@8RD5DJ24yrs4Y
No, it should be considered murder.
@99GMFDT2yrs2Y
Depends on the purpose of the hunt
@98XDJ4G2yrs2Y
Only if the fox is posing a threat to their land or welfare
@98XB7H52yrs2Y
yes, the only foxes that get killed are I’ll or old foxes.
@98GPT2G2yrs2Y
Do not support but don’t see as different from other legal animal harm
@9858RD9Conservative2yrs2Y
Yes, but only for population control reasons
@982V5WX2yrs2Y
Depending on whether the fox is affecting you at any point.
@96VMN3F2yrs2Y
On occasion at a traditional time, but provided incentives to not do so.
@93Q6CSX3yrs3Y
Only if it's for survival purposes
@8W5K9294yrs4Y
Hunting should be fine as long as it’s nott after extinct species
@8SJZR7QConservative4yrs4Y
Yes, but the practice should be heavily regulated.
@9D2GMXS2yrs2Y
No, foxes are completely harmless animals and delegalising hunting will only increase rabies rates in dogs
@9BQ7NPD2yrs2Y
No, but others should be allowed the right to do so
Yes but wherever possible the fox should be killed humanely
@9B9WBHR2yrs2Y
Only if there is an overpopulation of foxes in the area, as they are a pest.
@9B9VLC42yrs2Y
Yes but the hunters shouldn't hunt too many foxes
@93CQTST3yrs3Y
I do not support it publicly but I understand and respect it’s benefits.
@937C8SR3yrs3Y
Yes, nut only if the strict and humane regulations of the Hunting Act are met
@8XT95FL3yrs3Y
See no need for change in current legislation
I don’t have strong feelings on this
@8T6QRFV4yrs4Y
If they are hunting a scent then I have no issue with it
@8PPP3JP4yrs4Y
Let local authorities decide
@8PN42W34yrs4Y
No, This is a cruel sport however should the population of the foxes become a nuisance for farmers then I believe that the farmers should be allowed to shoot them.
@8PCN3CG4yrs4Y
No, but they can be hunted in a more humane way
@8NKX9MN4yrs4Y
Yes, since it is traditional and supports rural communities, but the fox can only be killed on private land owned by someone in the hunt and the dogs must be called off if it reaches its den.
@8NJ9SMQ4yrs4Y
For land control rather than a game on hoeseback dressed up
