Animal testing is the use of non-human animals in experiments that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under study. The United Kingdom was the first country in the world to implement laws protecting animals. In 1822 an Act to Prevent the Cruel and Improper Treatment of Cattle was passed by Parliament. The UK government has publicly stated that animals are sentient beings, not merely commodities, and has confirmed its commitment to the highest possible standards of animal welfare. Animal Welfare Act, an overhaul of pet abuse laws replacing the Protection of Animals Act, came into force in England and Wales in 2007.

if there is another way then this should always be used, the animals should have some quality of life and not in torture or pain mentally or pysically
yes but no? dependant on what animals they are as some are very different to humans and some are very similar such as pigs. cosmetics absolutely not
@9QKFSMF9mos9MO
As an animal advocator I firmly believe they shouldn’t be tested on but as someone who’s brother had a condition that is now treatable with an injection I say only for medicines and drugs
@9QGY6FR9mos9MO
Yes but not for cosmetics and only when necessary in case of drugs, and ensuring good animal welfare standards.
@9QGH9569mos9MO
Unfortunately I do think this has to be done for vaccines/medical research however not for cosmetics
@9QF4KLY9mos9MO
No and I personally think we should utilise criminals. Not those for petty crime but those who serve life sentences. They are a lot less innocent than the animals we test on
On mice and rats only on the understanding that the replicability to understand the effects on humans
@9PVXC6X9mos9MO
Yes for high priority vaccines and drugs. No for cosmetics and medical devices - human volunteers (unemployed etc) could do this in exchange for a fee.
@9PVN5BW9mos9MO
Yes, but not for cosmetics, and with more stringent regulations and oversight for the better treatment and welfare of the animals.
@9PNL77D9mos9MO
Yes but only when there is absolutely no alternative, and pain control and living conditions for lab animals should be continuously reviewed and improved. And definitely not for cosmetics.
@9PFMP5PConservative10mos10MO
Yes but only in certain circumstances, under certain conditions for certain essential products under animal protection laws
@9NLYYVR10mos10MO
animals should only be used as a last resort to test drugs and vaccines and the process should be heavily regulated.
@9NCFVL710mos10MO
Only when strictly necessary for human and veterinary medicine, and approved by a research ethics board/panel of experts. All other options are exhausted.
@9L3XDJZ1yr1Y
Yes as long as there is a sustainable source of purpose-bred animal test units available to the researcher.
@9HTX4C51yr1Y
There are a lot more human trials now there shouldn’t be any reason to use animals, maybe something with convicted felons
Yes, but not for cosmetics or drugs we already have enough testing on. Medicines need to be tested fairly, also, as most are only tested on males, and so side effects and efficiency in women isn't as conclusive.
@9GBQ79P1yr1Y
If the thing is dangerous, no, but if it is a harmless item that just needs a subject, yes, but I think humans can volunteer for things like that.
@9FKFB852yrs2Y
No, they should test it on human immigrants.
@9FDVGJT2yrs2Y
Yes but not if the risk to life or injury is likely.( if they would feel safe to test it on humans)
No, but if its intended purposes for the animals, yeah
Depending on the possible side effects
@9DWLFPS2yrs2Y
@9DJW6SW2yrs2Y
Yes, But they must be treated with respect
@9PBPQDX10mos10MO
No, but use criminals that commit crimes such as SA, pedophilia, animal abuse, murder etc with undeniable evidence for the conviction.
@9P5QKPY10mos10MO
I would need more information on how effective alternative testing methods are, it also depends on how humane and attentive they will be towards the animals if they show any signs of pain & discomfort during testing.
@9NHDHB310mos10MO
no, volunteers - need consent. for example those with not long to live may choose to opt for testing.
@9NGC7CQLiberal Democrat10mos10MO
I understand we have to test out drugs and vaccines as this could be essential to saving human life however we shouldnt be doing this for non vital products as animals have a life too. Surely we have tested enough to have the technology to advise us on chemicals we should and shouldnt use.
Yes as long as the animals used are not endangered, I also believe that we wouldn’t have endangered animals if had have used them in the first place.
If we ate dodo we would have dodo, if we ate panda we would have panda.
When did you last see a Wild cow ?
If we didn’t eat / need cow we would have very few very skinny Indian looking worshipped cows
@9MSCJHN10mos10MO
Yes, but it must be specific. E.g. the animal must have already passed to practice a medical instrument.
@9M7GLKB11mos11MO
Only if absolutely neccessary, drugs may be tested on animals if they are crucial in the development of important medicines. No animals should be used in the testing of cosmetics.
@9BMJNJY2yrs2Y
As long as the animals rights are not violated
@99ZRMPH2yrs2Y
only in instances where no alternate tests are feasible and not for cosmetics
@96NG9MH2yrs2Y
Yes to a specific extent where the testing’s harm isn’t severe and is more than worth it in the long run.
@96GYSZF2yrs2Y
@9677LYL2yrs2Y
yes to vaccines not cosmetics
@95YZG2V3yrs3Y
No, should be on humans only and they should be paid for there risk and service
@95TXXMW3yrs3Y
only if absolutely required
@95SNVZK3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if it is absolutely necessary and it's a life changing treatment.
Yes, if no other alternatives are available, and it can truly lead to a positive advance in medicine
@93JPTZF3yrs3Y
For product use but not to measure damage that could be caused to humans
@93894B43yrs3Y
Only in cases where a solution is direly needed, for example the covid vaccine would be a suitable circumstance
@8ZNDWCYLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
Yes but only in humain circumstances
@8ZJ4PRK3yrs3Y
Only if ABSOLUTELY required
@8ZDQCP63yrs3Y
Use on severe prison inmates
@8Z8CBVW3yrs3Y
Only in life saving drugs
@8Z5CWJQ3yrs3Y
Animals should not be used for testing in any way
@8Z3J88Z3yrs3Y
Test on organic tissue in lab made from scientists
@8YVJ48D3yrs3Y
only if it is the only way to test a drug and it’s the only way of doing it they should not exceed the amount of animals being used and should not put more that what need at risk of death
@8YRFTSS3yrs3Y
Yes only for medical purposes
@8YPTBGH3yrs3Y
only if animals would not die or be injured
@8YMNY8M3yrs3Y
No, just for human volunteers or those on death row in other countries
@8YFLBQF3yrs3Y
@8Y5W99J3yrs3Y
Test on, child sex offenders instead
Test it on rapists, molesters and other sex offenders
@8XLXSJG3yrs3Y
Yes, but so long as they’re treated humanely and not for cosmetics
@8XD6RJ33yrs3Y
Use human subjects who consent. We ain’t batty boys
@8XCRLHF3yrs3Y
Only if they are sure that it is safe and if they are 1% uncertain then they should NOT AT ALL!
@8X8KKY33yrs3Y
Depends on what is the product trying to be made whether something important or not.
@8X72VSS3yrs3Y
Only on rodents and other animals that may lead a short life.
@8X4MYN83yrs3Y
yes but not for cosmetics, but if there is an alternative to test these things without harming the animals then i would choose that
@8X4MQGT3yrs3Y
depends what kind of animals, for example wasps suck and rats are vermin
Yes, but only for medical purposes that will not harm the animal
@8X3TPNQ3yrs3Y
No under any circumstance. Because the drugs aren't impacting the animals so why subject them to the issues of creating it.
No, unless it will not cause them any distress or harm
@8WFRB783yrs3Y
Cosmetics tested on humans that have donated their body to science. Medicine should be tested on animals but only when it is completely necessary
@8VPFQBH4yrs4Y
Yes but not for some medical.
@8TR57FW4yrs4Y
For less intelligent animals it should be allowed, but if it is life threatening for the animal it should be reviewed highly. Not use monkeys except if it could potentially save many lives
@8TNYPXZ4yrs4Y
Not for cosmetics. Yes for drugs, vaccines and medical devices where a clear case has been made that there is no safe testing option that is not animal based.
@8TDGCNP4yrs4Y
Yes if necessary but not cosmetics
@8TB2S9K4yrs4Y
Not cosmetic however other medicinal products are very helpful
@8T9YYR4Conservative4yrs4Y
researchers should be able to test vaccines on animals but not beauty products.
@8T9YVHH4yrs4Y
@8T32QSH4yrs4Y
Yes, but if it comes as no form of torture to the animal.
@8SNY2XQ4yrs4Y
Yes, but only where the risks of animal suffering are minimal
@8SNLRNJ4yrs4Y
yes only if it can’t be done on humans
@8SMZQHN4yrs4Y
Not for cosmetics and not if viable safe and harm free alternatives are available for drug testing.
@8SMJTQL4yrs4Y
Only when absolutely necessary for medical research only
@8SLWV334yrs4Y
Yes, and the use of cloned humans
@8SL3JN64yrs4Y
@8SHMZC84yrs4Y
I feel that we should be more advanced in testing now but as we are not, test on animals but only for health not for beauty
Yes but only if directly helps the governement.
Testing should done on humans
@8R2D9C74yrs4Y
Only use adult human volunteers. But have lots of initiatives. Free holidays, large sums of money etc.
@8QTL592Liberal Democrat4yrs4Y
yes but not in cosmetics
@8QNM2W2Conservative4yrs4Y
Only if it is not dangerous
@8Q3MJKD4yrs4Y
Yes, they are the closest comparator to effects on humans
@8Q3K9LP4yrs4Y
Use it on inmates that have committed serious crimes
@8NYMBXZ4yrs4Y
Yes but only as a necessity when other methods will not work
@9D2L3CQ2yrs2Y
No, testing should be carried out on convicted pedophiles and rapists
@9CH22932yrs2Y
Depending on how much of that animal the UK have.
@9CFLHR22yrs2Y
Human testing should first be encouraged. People should volunteer to test out the products that we use for ourselves instead of animals who do not use these products.
@9C3Q9XD2yrs2Y
Yes until they can use schools sex offenders
