No, decriminilisation is non-desirable as it could lead to predatory factions of illegal drugs suppliers cannibalising the existing black market, further exploitation of some of the most vulnerable in our society and legitimise and strengthen drug empires. Crucially, it doesn't target the current problems faced by addicts; this should be viewed as a health concern, not a criminal one. Legalisation is the appropriate solution. Legalise, regulate and tax the legitimate distribution of all substances and use the taxes raised to fund a robust health and social care service for those most in need. This would have the added benefit of crippling the black market supply and freeing up police resources.
