The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 is to ensure that everyone who is at risk of homelessness, or who is homeless, is legally entitled to meaningful help from their local authority regardless of their current status. It does this by defining the service that local councils and other public bodies must provide to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The law requires councils to provide that help at an earlier stage than previously, with the objective that this will decrease the likelihood that people will become homeless.

Homeless people should have a place to go no matter what there situation but not in public buildings
homeless people need secure hosing that can't be taken away from them and lots of support and they will become independent faster tynanyou think
Create more shelters or housing for homeless individuals. With support programs and rehabilitation systems.
@9NB2Y4510mos10MO
I believe there should be monitoring and ongoing support. Streets, schools and heavy public areas where children are should be clear and safe. Those with mental health and drug addiction should be monitored and supported , given level of risk to general public.
@9N9VXLYLiberal Democrat10mos10MO
Provide safe areas for them to sleep rather than public property, as well as making food, health care, clothing available
Yes and social programs should be made available however if they are antisocial they shouldn't be allowed to cause nuisance
@9MYK6CV10mos10MO
No, but only if there are adequate social program options given and they do not have valid reason to refuse shelter offered
@9MPC32R10mos10MO
If they pose a public threat of course they should be aided in a rehab style facility, more hands on, as often those with serious mental health issues live on the streets sadly, until they are able to mix within society.
@9MNY7XR10mos10MO
Yes, but support should be offered to them to help with finding a job, managing any health issues they have, helping them gain education if needed etc.
@9DY78XP2yrs2Y
More needs to be done to understand why available shelter is unsuitable for these people. It's a nuanced issue.
@9D9DL472yrs2Y
Only in places where it does not cause a disturbance
@95DXSJQLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
it depends on why they refused
@9Q39JR69mos9MO
No, but create more social programs to provide basic provisions and support for employment/rehabilitation if/as needed
@9PQG6LZ9mos9MO
No, as long as the accommodation meets their needs in the sense of still being close to family and supportive networks around them.
@9FJZKQC2yrs2Y
It depends on individual circumstances
@9F59DNG2yrs2Y
No but provide better homeless care
@9C3JYZH2yrs2Y
No, make sure there is adequate living space for everyone.
@9BZ6NXW2yrs2Y
They should be allowed to do this and they should be allowed to comment on why the shelter or housing was inapproriate or refused, and these comments should be followed up
@9BNHJHN2yrs2Y
If refusal is based on addiction, rehabilitation programmes should be mandatory
@99QXV3X2yrs2Y
No but there should be areas in place for them.
@97RLT3M2yrs2Y

@94DS2JV3yrs3Y
Yes, but as long as they don't interfere or become dangerous towards a certain place and people who access it.
@93Q6FL43yrs3Y
They should be able to camp if they haven't been given somewhere that allows pets
@93PKBZD3yrs3Y
Yes, but should be offered protection to keep themselves safe.
I don’t think it should be criminalised, but I don’t think they should be aloud to beg openly on the streets during day time. And I do feel awful.
@93FWS393yrs3Y
With some restrictions on the public places permitted
@9355KQD3yrs3Y
Can we look into why these individuals are refusing shelter or housing? I believe there is improvement to be made in our housing support.
@92XGZ9VLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
No unless the shelter or housing is made available only under certain conditions which would require the individual to, for example, get rid of their dog.
@92Q7GVL3yrs3Y
Dependent on the circumstance which the person refused
If there is no where else for them to go then it should be allowed but I also believe we have plenty of space to set up campsites where there could be charity’s working within them to help people get back on their feet
@92LJ44D3yrs3Y
Make use of unused buildings or houses as homeless shelters, like hostels
@92J89R93yrs3Y
There should be designated public areas where this is allowed.
@92CJRT23yrs3Y
They should be aloud to camp on abbandonned buildings and parks as long as there not begging
@92CF3ZV3yrs3Y
only if the street is a better option
@92BHJY63yrs3Y
No, but better social support programs also needed
@92737ZL3yrs3Y
I believe spaces should be made for homeless people instead of them seeing public places as being the only alternative.
@8ZL8ZGW3yrs3Y
shoudlnt however more should be done to help accomodate them
@8ZK8XT8Liberal Democrat3yrs3Y
They should create more programmes and housing for the homeless
@8YJMVHK3yrs3Y
Find out why and address it
@9C5W27N2yrs2Y
No, but provide housing for them
@9BCDHMR2yrs2Y
Within designated areas and otherwise issue a fine for misconduct
@9B9ZW392yrs2Y
No, but the standard of shelter/housing should be raised
@99QFY2SLiberal Democrat2yrs2Y
It depends on the situation. All in all however i do think we should be more empathetic to homeless people and the government should put in more steps to help where they can.
@99GMD9S2yrs2Y
Yes, but not in a way that limits its use by other people during the day
Yes, and create more social programs to provide free food, clothing, medicine and mental healthcare.
@998TSBG2yrs2Y
In some cases, yes, however the use of drugs and alcohol should not be allowed and they should seek shelter as soon as possible
@98K3MGW2yrs2Y
Yes, but provide more social programs, initiatives, food and clothing to encourage a new path.
@984RJ672yrs2Y
Homelessness is an issue all round down to social housing and the private housing.
@97X6V9T2yrs2Y
Should be given safe places to set up a tent.
@97SDTJ72yrs2Y
There should be enough housing that they don’t need to sleep in public areas
@97QTTGM2yrs2Y
Depending on circumstances and the property
@973P6R52yrs2Y
No, and increase amount of schemes to get homeless people into work
@96RN53P2yrs2Y
It depends on the individual case
@93M3HG53yrs3Y
I think no In built up city areas, but we should provide camping spaces, and allow people to camp in non heavily built up areas.
@93CJVFW3yrs3Y
Review the available shelter.
More help should be given to find the correct approach
@8XW2GKZ3yrs3Y
As long as it’s not in crowds, and not a nuisance to the public.
