Russia’s claims for invading Ukraine are highly questionable, yet they often go unexamined or unchallenged. By refusing to support Ukraine, we inadvertently signal two key messages to Russia and other authoritarian regimes: first, that international wars between professional militaries can occur without significant pushback. This effectively reverts us to a time when borders could be forcibly redrawn through violence, undermining modern principles of sovereignty and stability. Alliances are an integral part of geopolitics, by choosing not to help Ukraine, the UK would be giving itself a diplomatic shot in the leg as it leads to less trade opportunities, political leverage over Russia and makes the UK look weak.

Ukraine, quite frankly, does not have the resources to resist the Russian invasion on its own, and if they did rely solely on them they would lose the war and their country very soon. If Russia takes Ukraine, it signifies a victory for authoritarianism and a massive blow to European democracy, and other European countries could soon be next.

We're stronger together. With the world now caught between 3 superpowers, the mid-powers must stick together or the world will be carved up in an Orwellian nightmare that we can't wake up from.
