Labour's government is facing significant criticism after DP World, the parent company of P&O Ferries, threatened to pull a £1 billion investment in the UK. This comes after Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Transport Secretary Louise Haigh publicly criticized P&O Ferries for its past actions, including mass layoffs. The government has since tried to distance itself from Haigh's comments, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer clarifying that her call for a boycott does not reflect the official stance. Despite the controversy, DP World has confirmed it will still attend the UK investment summit.

It's pretty telling when a company can threaten to pull investment just because they're being called out for treating workers terribly—Labour should stand firm on workers' rights.

This is exactly why the government should keep its nose out of private business decisions. Instead of letting the free market sort things out, Labour’s grandstanding is now risking a massive investment that could benefit the economy. Politicians need to stop meddling and focus on reducing regulations that stifle growth.

Logistics firm threatens to pull £1bn UK investment after Transport Secretary criticism
Reports claim a billion-pound investment in the UK could be under threat because ministers have criticised P&O Ferries – whose parent company DP World is behind it. Tonight Downing Street said comments by the Transport Secretary Louise Haigh were her “personal view” and didn’t represent the Government’s view.
