It’s about time the DWP was held accountable for how it treats disabled people. This compensation is the bare minimum after years of unnecessary hardship caused by Universal Credit changes. The government should be focused on supporting vulnerable people, not forcing them into legal battles just to get what they’re owed. It’s also alarming that so many benefit claimants are being sanctioned—punishing people instead of helping them just creates more poverty. We need a welfare system that actually supports people rather than pushing them further into financial insecurity.

It's about time the DWP was held accountable for the harm caused to disabled claimants—no one should have to fight in court just to get the support they were originally entitled to. While this compensation is a step in the right direction, it never should have come to this in the first place, and the government needs to rethink its entire approach to welfare. Instead of punishing vulnerable people with sanctions and unfair policies, we should be building a system that prioritizes dignity, fairness, and real financial security for everyone.
