The UK government is under intense pressure to intervene and save British Steel's Scunthorpe plant from permanent closure, amid fears that its Chinese owners may be deliberately sabotaging operations.
Emergency legislation is being considered to nationalise the plant after talks to keep it running collapsed. Critics, including Nigel Farage, have accused successive governments of selling off key national assets and applying double standards, especially when compared to the closure of blast furnaces in Port Talbot, Wales. The situation has sparked political outrage and warnings that the people of Wales will not forget the perceived neglect.
The government has yet to confirm whether it will supply the raw materials needed to keep the furnaces operational.
.This is exactly what happens when you sell off vital national industries to foreign powers with zero loyalty to Britain. British Steel should’ve never been handed over to the Chinese in the first place — basic economic sovereignty 101. Time to bring it home, nationalise it, and start putting British workers and interests first again.
