I think Social Media, Content & AI tech companies (i.e. ones where there is a risk to the user on what they are interacting with) should be regulated to ensure that there are protections in place against harmful patterns, data collection, and advertisements. But more generic algorithms (e.g. image/video compression, data analysis, etc.) should be up to the company on what they open-source/patent.
