Stop and search allows police officers to detain a person if they have "reasonable grounds" to suspect they are carrying illegal drugs, a weapon, or stolen property. Additionally, Section 60 orders allow officers to search anyone in a specific area without reasonable grounds during anticipated violence. Proponents argue it is a vital proactive tool for deterrence and confiscating knives in a city plagued by youth violence. Opponents argue the tactic is institutionally racist, statistically ineffective at reducing violent crime in the long term, and humiliates innocent young men, further damaging trust in authority.

The Stephen Lawrence enquiry showed there is institutional racism in the police. Since then other research has shown it is the same in other public institutions such as the Fire brigade.
Racism and misogyny are rampant and need to be addresses in society as a whole and measures taken to curb their impact.

To reduce knife crime I think that police should conduct stop and searches when they have good reason to, they should definitely be allowed to do so at any time to criminals or people under investigation. There should be walk through detectors in public places and schools etc like there are in airports.
