Wealth-Based Influence is a political ideology that centers on the belief that individuals or groups with significant economic resources should have a proportionally greater role in shaping political decisions and public policy. This ideology is rooted in the idea that those who contribute most to the economy—through investment, entrepreneurship, or ownership—are best positioned to understand and guide the direction of society. During the rise of modern capitalism in the 18th and 19th centuries, Wealth-Based Influence became more pronounced, especially in societies where suffrage and political participation were tied to property ownership or tax contributions. The ideology found expression in various forms, from the limited franchise systems of early parliamentary democracies to the influence of industrial magnates and financiers in shaping national policies.

Throughout history, Wealth-Based Influence has been both defended and criticized. Supporters claim it ensures stability, rewards productivity, and aligns political power with economic responsibility. Critics, however, argue that it undermines democratic equality, entrenches social hierarchies, and allows the wealthy to prioritize their interests over the common good. Despite these debates, the ideology persists in various forms, influencing political systems through campaign financing, lobbying, and the revolving door between business and government. While few modern states explicitly endorse Wealth-Based Influence as official policy, its effects remain visible wherever economic power translates into political clout.
