Should the UK increase or decrease the amount of temporary work visas given to high-skilled immigrant workers?
Between 2008 and 2010 the United Kingdom began implementing a five tiered “points-based immigration system” which separated immigrant applicants into five tiers based on their employment potential. To secure a skilled worker visa, people have to qualify for 70 points. Having a job offer from an approved employer for a skilled job and being able to speak English will give 50 points. The applicant can achieve the remaining 20 points if they are due to be paid at least £25,600 a year. They can also gain extra points for having better qualifications (10 points for a relevant…

Decrease; companies are currently taking advantage of this scheme, and our citizens should be doing these jobs.

Increase, it's more important to have the best and brightest supporting our country and economy than to worry about their country of origin

Yes they should increase these to allow skilled immigrants to work. It should be easier to extend to permanent work visas too
@9Q8T3RJ9mos9MO
Keep the same amount of temporary work visas but the government should provide more incentives for citizens to work
@9Q7BWRY9mos9MO
We should try to train up British workers first but we should allow high skilled workers to come to UK to work in those industries where there is a deficiency of British workers.

It is not a simple case of a blanket increase or decrease. Work visas are crucial in bringing talented labour into the UK but temporary visas need reform to ensure that they are not exploitative
@9N3SLM510mos10MO
Try to reduce. Train the existing UK population and allow other countries to retain skills for the sake of their economies.

Increase but ensure the jobs are offered without a lower cost therefore making it a level playing field for UK citizens
@9GNSCLX1yr1Y
There should be more government incentive for tuition and training positions for English nationals especially in regard to the councils, schools, NHS and other somewhat public services
@9MYJRXH10mos10MO
Are these pushing wages down? If they are it is more important to clamp down on businesses abusing this for cheaper workers
@9MTRGS410mos10MO
Increase, and decouple the visas from the employers, they are being used to force people to accept worse conditions and pay.

Increase, sector-based, e.g. the NHS appears to be in urgent need of high-skilled workers. So based on the business needs schemes that make it easier for certain groups of high-skilled immigrants to enter the UK.

Allow anyone who want to work and live here and isn't a threat to societ let them come andmake it easier for people

Priority should be increasing pay for domestic workers so they stay in these jobs, and just give work visas to help fill in jobs that our struggling to be filled for other reasons
Yes, and visas should be limited to specific work categories where there are known skills shortages.
Increase, but only as a temporary measure while the government implements a strategy to train British people in the skills that businesses demand.
@99SW5L82yrs2Y
We should give permanent ones instead.
Increase, as long as the workers are paid the equivalent amount as any equivalent UK worker
@8TVB3D34yrs4Y
There should be stricter controls on some roles where our citizens want to learn and participate in these jobs (e.g. medicine, law) and where participation depends on completing in-work training in order to qualify. Highly skilled immigrant workers should have access to the job market after these qualifications periods are complete.
@8TN8MJ24yrs4Y
Depends on economic needs
@8RP4VYW4yrs4Y
Keep it at it's current level and also provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs. So that these jobs are filled by both. Make it a priority to provide these visas to people who, for whatever reason, cannot practice in their own country
@8QPPQW54yrs4Y
Immigration shouldn't be based on skill base and we should have open borders worldwide.
@8QMWGNP4yrs4Y
They should be paid normally like anyone else
@8Q57RVP4yrs4Y
Stop stealing the labour of the so-called underdeveloped countries
@8Q3V5WN4yrs4Y
Increase but also provide more incentives for own citizens for this job, so that can decrease in future
Keep the same but the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for jobs Where there areas of demand
Keep the same but the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for all areas of employment demand
@9B82CXC2yrs2Y
Whatever the demand is it should be met
@8QMWJFR4yrs4Y
decrease it as so many people are taking temp jobs stopping people who want the full time version
@8G2F4CP4yrs4Y
Less visas...more jobs for current residents of Britain
@8PPTXNC4yrs4Y
It should not matter, all immigrants should be treated equally regardless of there skills.
