Narrow down the conversation to these participants:
Police officers such as Authorised Firearms Officers, Specialist Firearms Officers and Counter Terrorism-SFO receive training and equipment that is equivalent and in some cases more advanced than that of Special Forces units, and as such are a better tactical option when dealing with extreme situations. They operate with more oversight and are more accountable than operators within those units.
See America, we don’t want to normalise gun use or serious weapons in our culture. Also the process of selection and training for people who use guns should be far more selective than the normal police force.

Too high a risk to members of the public, and government officials, if weapons are not permitted to deal with major criminals or terrorists.
@9JNQDNN10mos10MO
In the context of a terrorist attack the police would need to handle it quickly before too much damage is done, but if they are unarmed then they would be at a major disadvantage.

The police do not get the respect that they deserve, therefore I believe by militarising the police will cut down on crime on the streets.
@9H3K8971yr1Y
well just dont hire anyone then and make the police system so strict and make children learn immaculate morals that no one wants to commit crimes in the future, like in Japan or South Korea,
Police should be trained to safely use military grade weapons, when special forces are unable to come
@9GVXVXZ1yr1Y
Police are first responders that have to deal with a situation with little to no preparation and most the times they are inadequately equipped or the equipments is not to a reasonable standard
@9FKMD471yr1Y
The police can be trained accordingly and provided with such equipment. Militarization of police is the only way to ensure public safety from violent acts. If the police have to call a higher agency this could scaremonger the public and portray the aggressor/s as powerful and depict the police as incompetent.
@9FKKQNX1yr1Y
Higher agencies will cost more to be on constant standby for high intensity situations, such a militarised force in an urban environment will only escalate the level of crime and will result in more shootouts and the police force as it is now can be used for other uses and act as a multi-pronged unit.
@9GDKM331yr1Y
If we demilitarised the police, he'll would break loose. They need guns to maintain order and create a deterrent.
@9GCNCMCConservative1yr1Y
I think they are stupid. Ofcourse the police will need to use weapons for the British safety otherwise they are almost pointless. If there was a group with guns going on a mass killing around London. Police would need weapons right? My point stands.
