There are broader principles, such as non-violence and the rule of law, which should be upheld above and beyond whatever goals the social movement is pursuing. That said, if I agree with a cause and think it sufficiently important, I think individuals can be justified in breaking the law, while the law itself may still be justified and rightly enforced.
