The "Pro-Life" political ideology centers on the belief that human life begins at conception and that the unborn have a right to life that should be protected by law. The term "Pro-Life" emerged in the latter half of the twentieth century, particularly as a response to the growing legalization and acceptance of abortion in various countries. The movement has also expanded its focus in some regions to include opposition to euthanasia and assisted suicide, emphasizing a consistent ethic of life from conception to natural death. While the Pro-Life ideology is most prominent in countries with active debates over abortion laws, it has influenced international discussions on human rights, bioethics, and public policy, shaping the legal and cultural landscape around issues of life and reproductive rights worldwide.
