On Tuesday, the National Crime Agency announced it has returned the first batch of closed child sexual exploitation cases to local police forces for fresh investigations.
This move follows a massive nationwide review known as Operation Beaconport, which aims to identify investigative failures in thousands of historical files. Simultaneously, a controversial 219-page independent report was released by MP Rupert Lowe, alleging that authorities covered up the abuse of 250,000 children to avoid appearing racist. The report claims that organized gangs of predominantly Pakistani origin targeted white girls across 149 districts while politicians and police looked the other way for decades.
The government is now facing intense pressure to release all historical files and reform deportation laws for foreign-born offenders linked to these crimes.
