Government should have better legislation/laws that make social media platforms comply to a set of standards and regulations. Putting onus on them to do more to limit fake news, trolling, fraud and fake advertising

it's not for the government to "regulate" they are private companies. There should be stricter laws if the private companies are found in breach and are causing socio-politial harm.

As long as the social media sites are not owned by enemy state-backed authorities, they should remain private, with the former simply being sold to a corporation that is exempt of an enemy state's control.

A new social media watchdog needs to be set up which can regulate harmful disinformation and have it kept to the same standards as the press. Opinions should not be limited, though.
