Should the UK increase or decrease the amount of temporary work visas given to high-skilled immigrant workers?
Between 2008 and 2010 the United Kingdom began implementing a five tiered “points-based immigration system” which separated immigrant applicants into five tiers based on their employment potential. To secure a skilled worker visa, people have to qualify for 70 points. Having a job offer from an approved employer for a skilled job and being able to speak English will give 50 points. The applicant can achieve the remaining 20 points if they are due to be paid at least £25,600 a year. They can also gain extra points for having better qualifications (10 points for a relevant…

Increase, it's more important to have the best and brightest supporting our country and economy than to worry about their country of origin
@9QTTF8GLiberal Democrat9mos9MO
Decrease them, which would allow citizens to get jobs which would overall limit immigration and increase employment within the country, make skilled workers out of your own citizens without exploiting people from other countries for the low wage.
Immigration shouldn't be used by the government or companies as a means of avoiding training and developing people in this country.

As above - we shouldn’t only be allowing skilled workers into the uk? We need unskilled labour as well
It is sad to see that the country is not able to train high-skilled workers and that we are need to get them from another country.
Increase, but more emphasis on legislations on protecting immigrant workers from exploitation by UK companies.
I want less skilled immigrants to be allowed in, the backbone of society has been built in this. However it has allowed lower wages with i hate.
Increase, but ensure that companies are not continuing to take advantage of this program to decrease wages

The UK should invest in education both broadly and narrowly to these high skilled jobs, amd now should continue letting people move here and share their skills
@9P6H6LXLiberal Democrat10mos10MO
Business needs should help to set targets but also more money should be put into smiling own workers.
Increase at the moment to solve labour shortages in areas such as farming, but re-join the EU as a longer term solution. Be guided by need, not dog-whistle politics.
They should be offered visas that are not temporary, so they can have more security in their position in this country should they choose to live here
Decrease, high-skilled immigrant workers should be offered permanent work visas to prevent exploitation
Neither increase or decrease. But more incentives and skilled apprenticeships should be provided for.

Difficult to decide as we are taking high skilled workers away from third world countries. However if immigrants want to move & work in the UK they should be able to.
Increase, but make it harder for companies to to advantage or exploit the program. People should be paid fairly.
Increase where there are not enough uk workers available for the demand, but increase the incentive for UK citizens to train for those professions
Increase but introduce a minimum wage for high-skilled immigrants so guarantee that they are paid fairly and keeps the job market competitive for UK workers.
we should not discriminate which immigrants are welcomed, based on their skill level. All are in need of refuge
The position should have the same pay no matter who is applying for it, a current citizen or an immigrant
Increase, but have incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs, too, and don't allow lower wages to be paid than the legal minimum purely for immigrant workers.
Instead of temporary work visas, encourage highly immigrants to stay for longer to boost our economy
It should be flexible to requirements and also humane. A one size fits all system is inhumane and inflexible

Keep the current amount, the government should make the legal way of becoming a citizen easier as immigrants are using visas as a way to skip the process who can then be easily exploited due to them becoming illegals when the visas expire

Increase only where necessary to fill vacancies. In the longer term match training here to fill vacancies- with no tuition fees
It should be on a case by case basis and depend on whether a citizen can do the same job just as good or not
The visas should not be temporary, if we benefit from a person’s skills they should benefit from being here

Increase, sector-based, e.g. the NHS appears to be in urgent need of high-skilled workers. So based on the business needs schemes that make it easier for certain groups of high-skilled immigrants to enter the UK.
Points based immigration system is unfair. Entire system should be overhauled, especially as “lower skilled” jobs are currently most understaffed.

We should get the best people for the job, but look into why our citizens are not getting them and provide incentives to achieve them
@9BC77VLLiberal Democrat2yrs2Y
I am satisfied with the current amount, but work towards decreasing by training citizens for these jobs
We should work to prevent companies from taking advantage of this program to decrease wages
@945K7TRLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
Improve conditions, and focus on education and training for high-skill jobs. Nationality should not be a factor.
Increase, as long as the workers are paid the equivalent amount as any equivalent UK worker
@8Z7QCN5Scottish Green3yrs3Y
Increase so long as they are paid a wage befitting their skill and not one which makes them cheap labour.
I am more concerned with raising minimum wage and the quality of work life for the working class. But I still believe that other people from different companies should have full right to work in our country, the issue is employees underpaying them and then quality of work suffers as a result.
@8QMG9BLLiberal Democrat4yrs4Y
The current amount is fine but the government should provide more incentives and invest more into putting our citizens in these jobs.
@8Q8YQ9CLiberal Democrat4yrs4Y
Improve British schools and apprenticeship schemes
@8Q4TL6YLiberal Democrat4yrs4Y
Do whatever the job market requires. There is also the thought around having more young people living in the country paying taxes = more money to help the people depending on the state helping them i.e. elderly
Not temporary. Highly skilled workers should be offered residency.
Increase but a British citizen should get first pick at the job where possible
@8P5NC24Liberal Democrat4yrs4Y
Keep numbers at whatever level they need to be to ensure the success of the economy and society. However the government must do more to increase our own pool of high skill workers
They should be increased amounts of permanent visas for high skilled workers
It should be based on contribution to society
Abolish borders entirely so that there is no need for visas.
Temporary work visas should be issued on a national need basis.
While our economy relies on the hiring of skilled workers from abroad and it is important, therefore to continue this practice, more incentives should also be provided to make jobs more appealing to UK citizens.
Idfk what that is lmao I’m not british and I’m not old enough to get a job
@988552NLiberal Democrat2yrs2Y
Increase, but with valid background checks and a once a year check in to see their contribution. In turn, we should be preparing our citizens for these jobs.
Decrease, but change temporary to permanent. Immigrants should be provided the same rights to work as UK citizens
@8ZJ4Y4BLiberal Democrat3yrs3Y
Increased but they shouldn’t be underpaid and paid at the same rate as a British worker with identical skills
@8SJQJC9Scottish Green4yrs4Y
Skill level should be irrelevant.
@8NRYFLFLiberal Democrat4yrs4Y
I think we should decrease temporary work visas and increase permanent work visas
@8DYKF8FLiberal Democrat5yrs5Y
Decrease, the lower wages given also negatively impact the lives of already suffering people
