Every person deserves the right to basic food and shelter regardless of their ability or willingness to work. We all should be able to work towards our chosen careers without the real fear of ending up homeless. I believe when people are given the opportunities, financial and social/ community support, they want to work and we don’t need the fear of starvation to drive us to get a job. The economy would be much better if we all had a basic level of support as I believe people would be more willing to work if they were less stressed and we would have more people training in skilled roles.

Universal Basic Income provides a floor to lift yourself up, rather than a ceiling to stop you from doing that

With AI quickly taking large amounts of jobs, tax companies to fund UBI. People can then devote more time to developing passions, skills and new businesses in a rapidly changing employment economy without the pressure of having to work to survive.

 @9NYCGX2disagreed…2yrs2Y

It won't increase inflation and will boost business as people will have more money to spend, thereby paying back the money it will cost.

UBI will increase economic growth in an AI-driven future by giving people the freedom to do work that makes best use of their talents.

I believe people would be able to run more local based businesses, be more a part of their community and take courses to learn new skills if they knew they already had a basic income. We should work to live not live to work.

Everyone having enough money to meet basic living costs benefits everyone is society. It’s also cheaper to administer than the current benefits system.

Financial security provides the incentive to pursue employment and maximise contributions to the economy.

Ensures the most vulnerable have a decent income without means-testing and administrative interference.

It has not been proven to decentivise work. If anything it could motivate more. It's an attitude across the country as a whole that's the problem, not the pol8cy itself.

UBI would allow workers to leave jobs where they are treated poorly without fear of going broke. This would incentivise companies to give fairer contracts and treat their employees better.

UBI would socialise wealth amoungst everyone in the country. Everyone would be able to buy food and nessessities as is there right as a human. The effects could be revolutionary and we could be one step closer to pure socialism.

I believe that the universal basic income has been shown to work to combat social inequality and social issues in countries where this has been introduced

 @9M2K9JPLabourdisagreed…2yrs2Y

Everyone needs an income, whether they are sick, elderly, young or otherwise. A basic income allows people to purchase life necessities. To many are already going without food, warmth and clothing. This past winter showed that many was having to choose between eating and heating as souring costs meant people was unable to buy them.

IF everyone has a Universal basic income, whether through work or benefits it will give children opportunities as they will be further out f poverty. people who have lost jobs or are too sick to work will have a good standard of living

 @9FMVS7Qdisagreed…3yrs3Y

Universal Basic Income will vastly reduce the cost of providing benefits and provide a safety net for people who want to take risks in being more entreprneurial.

Research and trials have shown that UBI increases financial security, allowing people to live without having to worry about being in poverty. With this basic need taken care of, they are free to find work in any capacity that is right for them, or to re-train or educate themselves. Research also shows that UBI would ultimately cost less than benefits do currently. With the implementation of AI in so many jobs and the way the world is changing, UBI is essential to ensure that all people have a decent quality of life.

 @9NM7CWGGreen from Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A universal basic income removes the need for a benefit system and it allows each and every citizen to be treated with humanity and respect.
If it is phased out at a certain level, it would not only improve the lives of those who earn less, but also provide a safety net if people are made redundant.

It will also remove the requirement for a pension pot, as long as it was extended to end of live, and this would also allow those pensioners who struggle to also be provided with a bigger and better standard of living.

It would also cut down on costs massively, as both pension and benefit departments could be merged into one overall more efficient department.

It is a right for every human to have the money to provide themsleves with basic needs like food and shelter.

 @9NLG8L5Labourdisagreed…2yrs2Y

It would only grow inequality which in my opinion is wrong in one of the largest economies in the world

 @9N4LQG4Labourdisagreed…2yrs2Y

When people aren’t worrying over rent/bills and essential costs they are able to make better decisions on bigger issues like careers, learning, volunteering, development, and they are likely to spend extra income on luxuries which will stimulate the economy to grow.

 @9N47XKXSDPdisagreed…2yrs2Y

UBI reduces poverty and inequality. UBI trials have proven to stimulate the economy as people have more expendable income which can potentially create more jobs. UBI would streamline the currently complex welfare system and removes a lot of the stigma and hurdles in the current system. UBI is also a good stepping stone towards wider wealth distribution, leading towards a fairer society

 @9LVGZ9VLiberal Democratdisagreed…2yrs2Y

It will not discourage work as it would still not be enough to live off of alone, but it would reduce the stress of worrying about whether or not to can keep you family fed and warm.

 @9LV6NHD disagreed…2yrs2Y

People are struggling whether they are unemployed or employed full time so a means tested UBI could improve lives today and ensure a brighter future for coming generations.
